Appmazing

Sandra MCauley has her iPads, knows her apps, and she is willing to share. I may have grown up in the era of touchscreens, and smartphones, but I had to admit when Sandra gave our partnerships an iPad, I was overwhelmed. The amount of different learning tools and professional development options she bombarded us with was truly amazing, from using Twitter and Instagram to develop our Professional Learning Networks, to classroom presentation and inclusion apps like Skitch, Showme and Piccollage.

It was awesome to see how to incorporate different app technology into our classrooms in ways that are unique meaningful and create access to all students.

Some of my favourite apps that we got to play with and that I am looking forward to trying out in my classroom when given the opportunity are Skitch and Piccollage.

Skitch allowed us to turn any physical handout into an online document that the student can fill out on their iPad and edit in real time along with their classmates. This lowers the access barrier for some students who can’t or dislike to communicate via writing traditionally.

Picollage is a fun and easy way to create collages, for assignments, or evidence of learning. It has tons of fun features like stickers, you can add text and incorporate pictures from a variety of sources, be it the internet or the camera app!

All in all apps in education have never been more exciting and the possibilities are endless as we move into an Appmazing future.

  • There are so many great apps that can help level the playing field for students! Using tech and apps also provide excitement for students who struggle with traditional lessons. Win-win.
