Two different ADST projects in which students created machines to enhance their senses

Inclusive education was a huge component of my final practicum. Withing my class a had a wide range of academic abilities and learning disabilities from FASD, mild and moderate autism and ADHD to oppositional defiant and gifted students. It was interesting to try and design lessons that adapted to all students’ abilities and needs. Activities that worked included physical motion dances and walks, as well as hands on building and creating tasks that allowed students to use a material they enjoyed working with to create something of their own design! Pencil and paper tasks were adapted as well, with options and opportunities for those who wanted extension to do so, but with the minimum expected knowledge demonstration at an entry point that everyone could display the fundamental concepts.
