When Ian Landy (a current principal in Powell River), skyped in to our Ed-Tech class I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I certainly wasn’t expecting the questions that he asked and the challenge that he issued. Why use Ed Tech at all he asked us, and then challenged us to find our own reasons to engage in it.
See, he uses his blog as a reflective tool to continually ensure that he is sharpening the tools in his educational toolbox, asked us how we do the same, and challenged us to reflect on our practices to push our educational journey as far as we can take it. The what of Ed Tech, the different gadgets we bring into the classroom, Twitter, Instagram, iPads, e-portfolios, and all the different apps for different purposes are secondary to the why of Ed Tech.
So why do we, and why should we use Ed Tech?
Its about the journey it can take us on, the ways it can expand our learning toolbox, connect us to new amazing resources and develop us as educators. Don’t use Ed Tech because you have to, do it because it provides you with an unlimited world of opportunity for growth and development.
Use Ed Tech to promote mindfulness and reflection, use it to explore your sense of wonder, to prototype something new and different, to challenge yourself.
Your pedagogy should always be evolving, use Ed Tech to ensure it does.
I really like the last line of your post. It is important for educators to ensure they are lifelong learners, using ed Tech is one way educators can continue to grow.
