Get the Word Out! Podcasting

Tim Cavey, the amazing host of the Teachers on Fire podcast, was gracious enough to skype into our class and enlighten us on the ins and outs of podcasting.

His own Podcast, which promotes teacher collaboration and documents agents of change throughout the education system all over the globe, has been a huge, and by his admission, unexpected success. Started from just a week of free time and a drive to find a productive creative outlet, it has grown into one of the foremost education podcasts in the world.

You see, Tim has a drive to improve the education system, and he believes in growth through challenge, and he’s been challenging the typical educational model with the help of other teacher innovators for over 100 episodes now.

He believes that podcasting provides an excellent opportunity to reflect on your thinking, as well as engage a wide audience, encouraging critical thinking and opening up new perspectives.

Aside from this, he has a whole host of reasons to begin podcast, it’s easy to do and to have published, it amplifies the voices of inspired educators, it shares best teaching and learning practices, it opens up new connections and opportunities for professional relationships with other educators, it helps you find your voice, and society as a whole really values podcasts.

As such he encouraged us all to jump into podcasting, it’s never been easier with the Anchor app that he says allows you to record and upload your podcasts to every hosting service available.

So I guess the only question left is: Why haven’t you put your voice out there yet?

  • I like that you provide a link to the Teachers on Fire podcast. This podcast is an interesting way to have all the “small” voices of individual educators brought together into a large discussion and resource.
